Personal Summary

Dr. Goforth is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Montana. An Australian and American citizen, she was born in Yemen and raised in Asia and Latin America. Her research focuses on culturally responsive evidence-based practices for children and their families. Her most recent project is a collaboration with a community to develop a culturally responsive educator and student social-emotional learning program for Indigenous students. She approaches her research and practice from a place of cultural humility and learning.

Dr. Goforth obtained her B.A. in Psychology at Lewis & Clark College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in School Psychology at Michigan State University. She recently published a book, along with Dr. Andy Pham, titled Culturally Responsive School-based Practices: Supporting Mental Health and Learning of Diverse Youth from Oxford University  Press. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, was an Associate Editor of the Journal of Educational and Psychological Consultation, and has been involved in numerous committees in state and national professional associations. Doctoral Students: Dr. Goforth will be taking at least one doctoral student in AY 2023-2024. Students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Dr. Goforth is a part of the Directory of School Psychology Faculty Addressing Culture and Diversity.

International Experience

A dual citizen of Australia and U.S., Dr. Goforth has lived in Yemen, Indonesia, Brazil, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Cambodia and the United States. She has also traveled to over 45 countries across the world.
