Finals Week Schedules

The final week of the semester is scheduled in two-hour segments, one segment for each course. The final week segments should be considered as class meetings to be treated by the instructor as they deem appropriate.

The Provost's Office requires that the final examination week is the only time period during which final examinations are to be given. Under no circumstances is a final examination to be given during the week preceding finals week.

Exceptions to the Exam Schedule

  • Some courses, particularly large introductory courses, schedule common finals for multiple sections. This information is published in the course syllabus for those specific courses. Students are responsible for reading the syllabus and knowing when the final will be given.
  • Classes with a start time of 4:00pm follow the regular daytime final schedule, or if the class meeting extends past 5:00pm, the evening final week schedule. All classes starting at or after 5:00pm must follow the evening final week schedule.
  • Courses meeting at 9:30, 12:30, or 3:30 will use the finals time slot of the preceding hour. For example, a class meeting 9:30 - 10:50am will schedule the final according to the 9:00am schedule.
  • Courses meeting Saturdays only will schedule exams on the Saturday preceding finals week if finals week runs Monday-Friday. Otherwise, exams will be scheduled the Saturday during finals week.

Relief from Taking 3+ Final Exams in One Day

Students may seek relief from writing more than two final examinations during the same day. Students scheduled for more than two final examinations on one day may contact the instructor to request and arrange for an alternate testing time during the final examination week. If satisfactory arrangements cannot be made, the student should seek the assistance of their dean.
