Guidelines to the Use of Wild Birds in Research

 

The Guidelines to the Use of Wild Birds in Research was first published in 1997 with a second edition in 1999 and a third edition in 2010.  This report is a special publication of The Ornithological Council originally edited by Abbot S. Gaunt and Lewis W. Oring. The third edition is edited by Jeanne M. Fair, Ellen Paul and Jason Jones.

Wildlife Health Bulletin #05-03, Updated January 2007: Interim Guidelines for the Protection of Persons Handling Wild Birds With Reference to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza H5N1 have been developed in consultation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They are advisory in nature and intended to provide guidance for field biologists and others working with or handling wild birds with specific reference to highly pathogenic avian influenza.
