The Desk Assistant (DA) is a student staff member who assists with the community development of the residence halls by providing excellent customer service at one of the residence hall Area Desks. Desk Assistants help residents by answering questions from students and guests, checking out temporary access cards and keys, dispersing packages, answering the phone, and providing general customer service and resources at the front desks. Please read the Desk Assistant Position Description for more information about this position.
Compensation: This position varies in hours per week and is paid the state minimum wage of $8.30 per hour.
2018-2019 DA Application Process
All New Desk Assistant and Returning Desk Assistant candidates must complete a Desk Assistant Application to be considered for the position. Applications for new DAs are available from early April to early July each year, and positions are offered beginning in mid-August and continue until all positions are filled. Desk Assistants who work for the department during summer conferences and continue throughout the academic year are hired through our summer conference staff process. The number of returning and summer Desk Assistants continuing into the academic year dictates how many new Desk Assistants will be hired. Additional positions may be filled throughout the academic year as needed.
We will conduct phone interviews with DA candidates in mid-July for positions beginning at the end of August.
DA candidates will be contacted in mid-August to inform them if they will be offered a position or not for the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications for candidates not immediately offered a position are kept on file for one year. Candidates may contact Residence Life at any time if they have questions.
