University of Montana Retirees’ Association Legacy Scholarship
Funding the Future: The UMRA Legacy Scholarship has been established by the University of Montana Retirees’ Association for UM students. Academic excellence, campus involvement, and proven commitment to the betterment of communities and family, as well as economic need will be considered in awarding the scholarship.
- Financial need as determined by UM Financial Aid Office
- Graduate of a Montana high school
- College GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Minimum of 24 earned college credits
- Community and/or family service
- Campus involvement
One $1000 tuition scholarship will be awarded annually to a UM student enrolled in an undergraduate degree program. One $600 tuition scholarship will be awarded annually to a UM Missoula College student enrolled in a certificate or associate degree program.
Students may apply for their scholarship for a second year provided they have earned an additional 30 credit hours with a GPA or 3.0 or higher for those 30 credits. The UM scholarship may be applied for a third year provided the awardee has earned an additional 30 credit hours with a GPA of 3.25 or higher for those credits.
Two scholarships will be awarded each year, using the principal. Anyone can make a donation; several retirees have made donations in honor of former UM colleagues. Any dollars over and above the cost of the scholarships will be retained to build an endowed scholarship fund ($25,000). Once the fund reaches the necessary level, scholarships will be awarded using the generated interest. As of December 2019, donations reached $11,800 and the first two scholarships were awarded for the academic year.
