Welcome to Summer Exploration 2023!

Summer Exploration offers high school students infinite possibilities during a transformative live-in, shared, two-week experience. Admitted students will explore all aspects of student life as they engage with world-class faculty, explore the iconic landscapes and communities surrounding Missoula, Montana and build meaningful connections with other high school students.

Who? Open to in-state and out-of-state mature and academically motivated students who are entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in the fall of 2023, as well as seniors graduating in the spring of 2023. Students need to be between 16-18 years of age. Admitted students will need to be present for the entire length of the official program (July 15 in the afternoon through the Final Showcase and Closing Dinner on July 27). 

Where? The University of Montana (Missoula, MT.) and/or a backpacking and camping trip via the Wild Rockies Field Institute (Montana) 

When? Saturday, July 15 - Friday, July 28, 2023 (accepted students will have the option to check-in on Friday, July 14, 2023.)

Why? Students will be exposed to all aspects of life as a UM student. Students will earn two college credits and have a choice from five courses. Accepted students will be enrolled into one of the five courses to participate in for the two week duration. 

Cost: $3,100 (the cost includes course fee, room and board, all meals and program costs.

Scholarships: There is no cost for Montana GEAR UP students and a limited number of $500 needs-based scholarships available for non-Montana GEAR UP students. More information can be found on the scholarship information link
