UM's Recycling Team is looking for motivated, hard-working, and self-directed students to join us for spring semester and possibly through the summer of 2021. If you are a good fit, this position may be extended into the next academic year. Applicants for this position will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until a suitable candidate is selected.
Our sustainability and recycling staff follows university guidelines to help minimize exposure to Covid-19. This includes the use of face masks when indoors or around others, regular cleaning and disinfecting, and other measures to ensure a safe working for environment for all.
If you want to contribute to one of the most visible sustainability issues on campus, this is the job you are looking for! The work is not always glamorous (recycling generally isn't), but you will be making a significant contribution to UM's efforts to become a more sustainable, less wasteful campus community. We offer flexible hours and meaningful work in the important field of recycling and sustainability.
Primary tasks include working with other members of our team to collect and consolidate recyclable material from around campus (inside buildings and at the outside collection stations), doing some peer education about recycling, and responding to requests from campus departments for additional bins, extra pickup service, etc. It's a physical job; you must be able to lift at least 30 lbs, preferably more, and safely drive one of our recycling pickup trucks around campus. The work entails lifting, moving boxes and bins, and spending time outdoors, even if it's cold or hot out. We try and pay a decent wage for your time and value your contributions to managing our recycling efforts on campus.
