Frequently Asked Questions
What items are permitted on the bus?
With limited space please be considerate of others by limiting your gear. Shuttle drivers can turn away passengers and/or their belongings at their discretion. The following items are permitted on the bus:
- Personal tube (inflated or deflated). Watercraft larger than a standard tire tube should be deflated and fit on your lap or under a seat. No inflated Kayaks or paddleboards allowed.
- Small coolers, bags, backpacks, drybags, etc. Should fit on your lap or under your seat.
- Food and beverages. No glass!!
Larger items may be permitted depending on space. Have a backup plan ready!
Where can I rent a tube or inflatable paddleboard?
Where can I park on campus?
Shuttle users are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation; however, Parking lot M and Z, north of the Campus Rec center is open to shuttle users. Parking permits can be obtained from the shuttle driver at no cost. Be sure and show up early so you have time to get a permit on your car. Permits are not required on Saturdays or Sundays or weekdays after 5 PM.
How can I track the bus location?
The real-time tracker can be accessed by downloading the Ride Systems App and selecting The University of Montana, or by going to ASUMbus.com.
Is RSVP required?
No, RSVP is not required. However, if you are planning to ride with a large group (more than 8 passengers) we encourage you to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we are prepared to accomodate. If capacity is reached for a shuttle, priority will be given to groups that RSVP.
How long can I expect the float to take?
Float time is heavily dependent on streamflow and wind. In general, the Sha-ron to campus float takes about 1 hour in early July and 2-2.5 in August. For a Milltown to campus float, double the time. Estimates are for time on the river and don't include shuttle and preparation. To be safe, always plan for the trip to go longer than you expect. If you catch the shuttle at 6 PM, you may be getting off after dark.
Will shuttles be cancelled under adverse weather?
ASUM Transportation is only responsible for the safety of its passengers while on the bus; passengers are responsible for their own safety on the river. Check the weather forecast before you go and be sure to wear appropriate clothing to protect from sun, rain and cold.
Under extreme weather conditions, such as severe thunderstorms, shuttle service may be cancelled. In the event that service is cancelled the live tracker will be updated to notify passengers.
