Resources & Support

OUR@UM Appointments

OUR@UM advising is intended to be a supplement to help students get started in research and remove some demand from faculty time; it is not intended to replace academic advising or the faculty-student relationship. OUR will meet with UM students from any discipline to discuss their interests and goals, help develop their ideas (from a non-disciplinary perspective), and direct them to available resources and potential faculty mentors. Feel free to send any students our way if you think this would be valuable to them.

Support for Grant Writers

OUR encourages all faculty to includes undergraduate researches in their proposals. Schedule an appointment with the office to discuss options for making your inclusion of undergraduates more impactful.

Request a letter of institutional support by sending the portion of your proposal containing relevant text related to undergraduate research or creative inquiry and a draft letter of institutional support to OUR@UM director, Alexis Gibson.

UM Conference on Undergraduate Research

Held annually at the end of April, the UM Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR) showcases research and creative scholarship through poster sessions, and oral/creative presentations. Students are welcome to present any work – it doesn’t need to be from a senior thesis or independent project.

UMCUR welcomes reserving one or more sessions for final presentations in courses where students complete a major research or creative scholarship project (e.g., Capstone courses, course-based research experiences, writing workshops, etc.). Please get in touch with OUR@UM for more information.

Experiential Learning Scholarship Fund

Students can apply for up to $2,000 to support engagement in research, creative works, internships, travel, and service. Starting in 2022, applications will be accepted three times a year. A letter of recommendation from faculty mentors is required for the application.
