Certificate Programs

Missoula College Commercial Driver's License (CDL)  training program teaches drivers wishing to refresh their skills with the basics of truck driving as well as equipment knowledge, Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations with an emphasis on safety and prepares them for a Montana Class A License. Our training is offered through the Outreach Department of Missoula College. We are approved for VA educational benefits and Work-force Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) training benefits.

Our fully-online Post-Baccalaureate Communicative Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Leveling Certificate program is designed for individuals returning to school with a completed bachelor's degree in a field other than speech-language pathology or audiology. The purpose is to provide students with foundational knowledge in the areas of speech, language, and hearing development in order to be eligible to apply to graduate programs in speech-language pathology and/or audiology.

The Customer Relations Certificate of Applied Science provides students with skills to promote excellent customer relations in business settings. Job opportunities may be found in the following areas: advertising, computer technology, health, legal, education, non-profit, retail, insurance, manufacturing and public relations. This program is fully online.

The Cybersecurity Professional Certificate is designed to prepare computer and networking professionals for a career in the emerging field of computer security by providing advanced experience in the areas of business continuity, computer system design, risk assessment and mitigation techniques, contingency planning, data integrity, security investigation and troubleshooting.

The Digital Design Certificate provides fundamental training for anyone who needs to create compelling visual designs. This certificate focuses on the basic tools and techniques of computer-based digital imaging, design and publication, including photo editing/manipulation, graphical elements creation (raster and vector), typography, layout design and basic animation. Whether designing newsletters, websites, presentations, reports or outreach materials, this certificate will help introduce you to essential tools and ideas.

The Certificate in Early Childhood Education (P-3) is offered fully online and is designed for licensed K-8 teachers who already have a master’s degree or those who are interested in the P-3 endorsement without pursuing a master's degree.

Modality: Hybrid/Blended

The 12-credit Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences (CEHS) will focus on examining the relationship between the environment and human health. This includes the impact that environmental contaminants and other environmental issues (air pollution, soil pollution, water pollution, hazardous waste, climate change, etc.) have on rural and underserved populations of the Northern Rocky Mountain region. The 12-credit Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences can be completed entirely online. In addition, students interested in pursuing the 42-credit MPH can transfer in the 12 credits completed in the Certificate in Environmental Health Sciences program towards the 42-credit MPH program.

The 12-credit Certificate in Epidemiology will provide an overview of epidemiology, an emerging field of study within public health. Students will be taught the principles and methods of epidemiologic investigation and an overview of relevant biostatistical applications, including the basis for conducting and interpreting epidemiologic studies. The 12-credit Certificate in Epidemiology can be completed entirely online. In addition, students interested in pursuing the 42-credit MPH can transfer in the 12 credits completed in the Certificate in Epidemiology program towards the 42-credit MPH program.

The Forensic Studies certificate is primarily designed as a stepping stone toward a baccalaureate degree for those interested in a career in forensic sciences or a related field. It is also designed as an avenue for law enforcement agents, forensic scientists or other professionals in the justice system to satisfy mandatory continuing education requirements for continued employment or promotion. This program is offered fully online.

The Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education is an online professional certificate that complements students’ academic qualifications by providing them with the specialized skills necessary to teach gifted and high ability students and plan and deliver appropriate programs to meet their unique needs.

The Certificate in Global Health (CGH) brings together faculty and courses from across the University in an integrated program that prepares students in the health sciences, public health and the practical social and cultural dimensions of implementing health and well-being programs in disadvantaged contexts. The 12-credit Certificate in Global Health can be taken completely online, but also offers opportunities for on-campus instruction. Students interested in pursuing the 42-credit MPH can transfer in the 12 credits completed in the Certificate in Global Health program towards the 42-credit MPH program.

The Department of Communication Studies’ Certificate Program in Health Communication educates students as to how communication about health is constructed, transmitted, managed and improved in a variety of contexts.

The Medical Reception Certificate prepares students with the required skills to provide exceptional service to patients in a medical setting, ranging from private practice receptionists to hospital ward secretaries. Students learn how to perform essential duties including:

  • Greeting patients, scheduling appointments, screening telephone calls, obtaining and entering patient registration information, releasing appropriate medical information, maintaining medical records and managing patient flow
  • Understanding the financial transactions of practice with a clear understanding of all the activities in the billing and collection cycle
  • Applying foundational knowledge of medical law and the principles of medical ethics as well as the guidelines established by HIPAA.

Upon completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Applied Science and will be prepared to work as receptionists in health care facilities and physician offices.

The Nonprofit Administration Online Certificate Program offers students graduate-level education and specific training in the field of nonprofit administration. This program is offered fully online and the only one of its kind in Montana. Upon completion, students have the option to apply these credits towards the MPA Program.

The Principal Licensure Certificate prepares professionals already holding a master’s degree for Montana’s Class 3 Administrative License and the K-12 Principal endorsement.

The Certificate in Public Administration offers public employees fundamental skills through a series of core courses important for the profession of public administration. These classes provide basic knowledge and skills that enhance the level of professionalism in public service. Upon completion, students can apply these credits toward the MPA Program.

Modality: Asynchronous Online

The Public Health certificate is a 12-credit online program geared toward those who currently work in the public health setting, but want to gain additional public health skills and training. The Certificate in Public Health is also ideal for those who work in related fields but are interested in learning more about public health, and for those that are interested in ultimately pursuing the 42-credit MPH degree. Importantly, the 12 credits completed in the Certificate in Public Health program can be transferred into the 42-credit MPH program.

The Certificate of Public Health Administration is a 12-credit online program, and will provide students with a general overview of public health and health care policy and systems at the global, national, state and local levels. Students interested in pursuing the 42-credit MPH can transfer in the 12 credits completed in the Certificate in Public Health Administration program toward the 42-credit MPH program.

The Certificate in Public Policy offers public employees fundamental and advanced skills through a series of core courses. These classes provide basic knowledge and skills that enhance the level of data-driven decision-making in public service organizations. Students can easily transfer credits from this certificate into the MPA Program if they so choose to do so.

The objective is to market and effectively sell products or services to sustain itself, whether for profit or not-for-profit. Our fully online Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Certificate program is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge in the areas of speech, language and hearing development in order to be eligible to become assistants in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and includes an increased amount of credit hours dedicated to clinical application and observation in the fields of SLP and Audiology. Being an SLP/A-assistant provides the opportunity to directly work with and help individuals with speech, language and hearing disorders in schools, clinics and hospitals, under the supervision of a certified speech-language pathologist.

The Superintendent Licensure Certificate provides coursework for Montana’s K-12 Superintendent endorsement. To qualify, students must hold a master's degree, the Class 3 Administrative License and the K-12 Principal endorsement.

The Wilderness Management Graduate Certificate is offered fully online and provides students and professionals with training and expertise in the key topics related to wilderness management and provides the necessary foundation for careers in this field.
