Sharing Your News
UM employs a variety of channels to share campus news. These include news releases, social media, e-publications, web pages and print publications. Major campus events or announcements should become a news release, which are sent to media outlets. News releases also are automatically added to UM’s online calendar and included in various publications and social media platforms. Submit a news release by emailing email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. Lesser events should be added to the University of Montana Events online calendar at https://www.umt.edu/events/ and clicking on the green “Post Your Event” button. Events posted to the online calendar are included in UM e-publications such as UMToday and ForUM.
If you are unsure whether your news should become a news release, email email@example.com or call 406-243-5914. The main University Relations office number is 406-243-2522.

Every weekday, the University publishes UMToday, a daily roundup of what is happening on campus, news of the day and information faculty, staff and students can use. Submissions are welcome, and all events should first be submitted to the UM Calendar of Events for maximum coverage and attendance. Please submit your item at https://www.umt.edu/events/. UMToday is sent to all UM employees. Students do not receive UMToday.
This e-newsletter is published each Monday during the academic year except during scheduled breaks. It contains important news for UM employees. Submissions may be emailed to email@example.com.
University Relations sends news releases locally, across Montana and nationally. Science news has a global reach via the EurekAlert distribution service. All news releases are placed online so they can be shared via social media and web pages. News releases may include photos or video. Request a news release by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Submitters who attempt to provide a rough draft are greatly appreciated. University Relations will edit the release and check it with the submitter before it is sent to the media. All news releases are shared through multiple UM news channels. A searchable archive of UM news releases is online at http://news.umt.edu/.
Some departments have the ability to mass email UM employees and students via the InfoGriz system. University Relations generally tries to combine mass emails into ForUM or UMToday in an effort to avoid inundating inboxes, but it will do mass emails for individual news items for special circumstances. UMToday is distributed via InfoGriz. Request an InfoGriz mass email by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or calling 406-243-5914.
Strategic Communications and University Relations maintain UM’s central social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat. News releases and online calendar items are considered for inclusion on those social media channels, as well as other submitted content such as excellent photographs or video. Submit requests or other content to firstname.lastname@example.org.
