UM employs a variety of channels to share campus news. These include news releases, social media, e-publications, websites and print publications.
UM Events Calendar
Campus events should be added to the UM Events Calendar at https://www.umt.edu/events/ and clicking on the green “Post Your Event” button. Events may be submitted at any time once event details are finalized, and should be posted to the calendar 10-14 days before the event occurs. Events posted to the online calendar are included in UM e-publications such as UMToday. For help or more information, email email@example.com or call 406-243-4853.
Every weekday, the University publishes UMToday, a daily roundup of what is happening on campus, news of the day and information UM employees can use. Submissions are welcome, and all events should first be submitted to the UM Events Calendar for maximum coverage and attendance. Please submit your item at https://www.umt.edu/events/. UMToday is sent to all UM employees. Students do not receive UMToday.
UM Student Weekly
All UM students receive UM Student Weekly in their UM email inbox on Wednesdays throughout the academic year. The enewsletter provides a weekly roundup of what is happening on campus, recent news relevant to students and other information such as deadlines that UM students can use. Submissions are welcome at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Major campus events, awards or announcements may become a news release if they are reflective of campus priorities. Releases are sent to local, regional and national media outlets. They also are included in various UM publications and can be shared on social media platforms. News releases may include photos or video.
The University Relations editorial team decides which news items warrant releases and which may be suitable for another avenue. Submit a news release request by emailing email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.
All news releases are placed online and are searchable at http://news.umt.edu/.
Some departments have the ability to mass email UM employees and students via the InfoGriz system. University Relations generally tries to combine mass emails into UMToday in an effort to avoid inundating inboxes, but it will do mass emails for individual news items under special circumstances. UMToday is distributed via InfoGriz. Request an InfoGriz mass email by emailing email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 406-243-5914.
The Strategic Communication and University Relations departments maintain UM’s central social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Snapchat. News releases and online calendar items are considered for inclusion on social media channels, as well as other submitted content such as excellent photographs or video. Submit requests or other content to email@example.com.
This unit serves all campus departments and offices, as well as the public, by producing and distributing high quality marketing materials and publications that reflect the UM brand, image and reputation. This department enhances the overall mission of UM and higher education through outreach, publications, electronic communication, marketing materials and social media. The Montanan is UM’s institutional and alumni magazine. Published three times per year, UM’s flagship print publication is mailed out to about 90,000 alumni and friends of UM. Select content culled from UM news releases often appears in the Montanan. Jenny Lavey is editor of the Montanan. The Kaimin is UM’s student-run and produced newspaper. To request news coverage, call 406-243-4310 or email email@example.com. That paper is online at http://www.montanakaimin.com/. UM Dining has some marketing opportunities available, such as advertisements on napkin holders and using screens in campus eateries. These are decided on a case-by-case basis by calling Trail Bundy at 406-243-5089 or emailing email@example.com.
Printed materials can be created at AlphaGraphics Quick Copy visiting its University Center location, calling 406-243-2679 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Posters are a great way to get out about events on campus. Permissions to hang posters in the University Center are handled by ShipEx at 406-243-6304. The UM Advocates also can be employed to hang posters are many sites across campus by calling 406-243-5874 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
