Darren M. Mackiewicz

Expert witness for the prosecution

Darren M. Mackiewicz, 32, is a task manager within the Environmental Protection Agency’s Libby, Montana asbestos project. He specializes in collecting and analyzing data from air, soil, and dust samples using geographic information systems, according to court documents (pdf).

In the criminal trial U.S. v. W.R. Grace et al, Mackiewicz is expected to serve as an expert witness for the prosecution. His testimony could contain his conclusions on the sampling data from Libby and would form a foundation for a series of government trial exhibits, according to other court documents (pdf).

The trial itself focuses on Libby and whether the W.R. Grace chemical company and five of its former executives conspired to hide lethal workplace risks from workers and community members.

Mackiewicz has a degree in geography from Bridgewater State College in 1999. In addition to his work in Libby, he has been involved in a variety of geographic information system projects throughout the United States.
