Medical Information Technology

What Can I Do With A Degree or Certificate In Medical Information Technology?

The Medical Information Technology program provides three options with an Associate Degree as well as a one-year certificate option allowing students the flexibility of choosing a career as a medical administrative assistant, medical transcriptionist, health information coding specialist or medical receptionist.

The National Healthcare employment outlook projects that employment in these fields will continue to grow faster than the average due to increasing demand for the service.

Students are trained in front office administrative skills to include scheduling appointments, interacting with patients, submitting patient insurance claims using current coding procedures, and maintaining medical and financial records. Students are exposed to the principles of medical ethics and medical legal issues facing health care providers. All students in the degree programs acquire work-related skills through an internship experience.

Students are accepted in autumn and spring terms. Prior to entering the program, students shall demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding.
