Continuing Student Scholarships

Campus-Wide Scholarships Administered by the Financial Aid Office

The Financial Aid Office administers several scholarships that are available only to continuing students. Application is made through the UM Scholarship Portal. The application deadline for these campus-wide scholarships is February 15 for the upcoming academic year.

Because these scholarships are funded by the generosity of UM donors, most students will be asked to write thank you notes to the individuals who sponsored their specific scholarship. Students will be notified at the time of selection if they need to do so.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be pursuing first bachelor's degree
  • Have earned 12 or more graded credits at UM
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (some scholarships have higher GPA requirements)
  • For need-based scholarships, file the 2017-18 FAFSA by February 15, 2017 and have financial need

WUE students and Presidential Leadership Scholars are not eligible to apply for the campus-wide scholarships. International students receiving a renewable general scholarship such as the LAS, Cal Murphy or International Student Scholarship are not eligible to apply either.

Scholarship Renewal Rules

If a student was awarded a renewable scholarship such as the MAA, WUE or LAS, the scholarship will automatically be renewed as long as they meet the conditions below.

Renewal Conditions

A student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the end of the spring semester for the scholarship to be renewed. Not all MAA scholarships are renewable. Your initial award letter details the number of years of eligibility.

Students who are not continuously enrolled (except summers), transfer to Missoula College (including Bitterroot College), or become distance only students, forfeit the scholarship. MAA recipients cease to be eligible for the MAA upon completion of a bachelor's degree.

The scholarship will not be disbursed in any given semester until the student is enrolled full-time (12 or more credits). The scholarship is not available for use in the summer term.

Students who do not meet scholarship conditions may appeal for reinstatement using the Scholarship Appeal Form.

Post-baccalaureate students (i.e. students who have previously earned a bachelor's degree) and graduate students are not eligible to receive the MAA.

The scholarship will automatically be renewed if at the end of the spring semester a student has been enrolled full-time (12 credits or more), each term, and has a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Students who are not continuously enrolled (except summers), transfer to Missoula College, establish Montana residency or become distance only students, forfeit the scholarship. WUE recipients cannot also receive the WSS scholarship and cease to be eligible for the WUE upon completion of a bachelor's degree.

The WUE scholarship can be used during summer terms.
