The mission of the Montana Biotechnology Center is to provide core services in support of
basic and applied research at The University of Montana, and to facilitate interactions between
investigators and private sector enterprises in the state.
Established in 1996 within the office of the Vice President for Research
and Development at The University of Montana-Missoula,
the Montana Biotechnology Center and its Director seek to assist in the expansion of biotechnology in Montana,
predicated on research and technology excellence, a well-trained work-force, and entrepreneurial expertise.

The Center provides core services and instrumentation at The University of Montana to facilitate
molecular- and cell-based research in basic biological and biomedical sciences across colleges, departments,
and graduate programs. Access to commonly used equipment and services, as well as to specialty instrumentation
and facilities, serves to further progress and expand the scope of UM research. Users of the Center core
facilities include research groups in the
Division of Biological Sciences, the
Department of Chemistry, the College of Health
Professions and Biomedical Sciences and the College of Forestry
and Conservation.

The Center seeks to serve as a convenient point-of contact for inquiries related to biotechnology research
and development. Researchers, entrepreneurs and product developers can be assisted in obtaining specific information
from appropriate University offices and research units.
Using a broad definition of the term "biotechnology," the Center collaborates with researchers to identify
projects that build on existing strengths and that address needs relevant to the State of Montana.
