At the end of each spring semester, furniture, books, toiletries, clothes, and miscellaneous unwanted items pile up around campus as students vacate their rooms in university residence halls and their off-campus rentals. UM, like many campuses around the country, responded to this volume of waste by starting Campus Thrift, an effort to collect unwanted items from students leaving for the summer.
This spring, on May 19, 2016, UM partners will sort and sell items that have been collected from on- and off-campus students and use the proceeds to benefit campus sustainability projects. UM's Residence Life Office, Office of Sustainability, ASUM Renter Center, and UM Recycling coordinate the event and will have staff and volunteers collecting donations beginning May 11th through the 13th at collection sites on and off campus.
WHEN: Collection will take place beginning Wednesday, May 11 through Friday, May 13 (noon-6pm)
SALE will take place Thursday, May 19 9am-3pm
Collection sites for on-campus students include outside locations near Aber, Jesse, Craig/Elrod, and Miller/Pantzer/Duniway, as well as small boxes for non-furniture items in residence halls
Collection sites for off-campus students include the University Villages Community Center (3 Elkhorn Ct.) and the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house (1125 Helen)
The SALE will take place in the Schreiber Gym, the building to the south of the library along Campus Drive. We hope to see you there!
We will NOT be accepting mattresses, couches, other large/heavy pieces of furniture, or hazardous materials. Questions? Want to volunteer? Please contact us (campusthrift at mso.umt.edu) or 243.2017.
