University Libraries

What started out more than 125 years ago with 187 books in an old schoolhouse is today Montana’s premier research library and a hub of vast knowledge. In addition to an extensive catalog of books, journals, periodicals, online databases and other publications, the Mansfield Library has a deep collection of digitized materials, including maps and historic photos. Services offered include tutoring, research help, classrooms, personal study rooms, technology lending and more. Need a yoga mat? We’ve got that, too. Check one out at the front desk.

Mansfield LibraryA Portal to our Storied Past

The library’s Archives and Special Collections chronicles our regional history through unique and valuable manuscript and print holdings, oral history collections and digital archives. Some of the items in our collection date back to the late 1800s. These resources provide rich opportunities for learning and scholarly studies to UM faculty and students, Montanans and researchers from around the world.

Two Studios to Make You A Star

Our One Button Studio and Lightboard Studio are self-service production studios designed to let even novice performers record their presentations and hone their skills. The Lightboard Studio features an illuminated glass board that allows you to write notes and drawings seemingly in thin air.

Printing and scanning

The library provides 3D printing, laser cutting, wide format art printing and a variety of other services. We can assist with a wide variety of projects and needs for work, study or play.

Available computers

The library provides more than 100 computers for users with NetIDs. Computers are available on every floor of the library. We also check out laptops and a variety of other equipment to members of the UM community.
