Conference Overview

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services – Child and Family Services Division (CFSD) is hosting the annual state Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect Conference (PCAN) in-person in Great Falls, Montana from April 9-11th, 2024.

The 2024 Montana PCAN Conference theme “Igniting Hope, Building Community” is designed to inspire child welfare employees, partners and stakeholders surrounding the Montana child welfare system in igniting hope among children, families and those working alongside them; recognizing the power of community as the center of our collective work.

The conference will focus on providing educational and inspirational opportunities for those who work in and around child welfare and the prevention of child abuse and neglect, offering coaching, skill building, resource sharing, training opportunities with national recognized speakers and trainers, and networking.

It is an important time for those working in the field of child welfare in Montana to come together! A key element of the work Montana’s child welfare system is engaging in is to strengthen collaboration and community for a collective, impactful response in supporting children and families. The 2024 conference will be tailored to address community impact, skills in addressing addiction and the influence of technology on families and our work, with intentional sharing of Montana-based successes and models that are demonstrating positive impact in protecting children.

A Message from Partners, NoMore Violence Week

“In 2024, the PCAN conference is partnering with NoMore Violence Week to deliver a comprehensive array of trainings and events around prevention of abuse and family violence. NoMore Violence Week was founded in 2015 by Dr. Cherie McKeever and students at Great Falls College-MSU in response to an increased recognition of violence against children and in families in Cascade County. A week of awareness events was their coordinated response to "do something" positive. These initial efforts have grown into a tremendous legacy of what is now known as NoMore Violence Week. It occurs during the month of April in Great Falls, Montana, and includes a full week of free training, awareness building activities, and community events for all ages. Through partnerships with more than 20 community organizations, this week addresses challenging topics - child abuse, intimate partner violence, family violence, trauma, human trafficking, missing and murdered indigenous people, addiction, suicide, mental health, isolation and more - in a spirit of collaboration, partnership, growth, hope and unity. We are looking forward to a unique collaboration with the PCAN Conference and NoMore Violence Week in 2024.”
