Event interpreting & captioning
Who this is for: UM departments and campus event organizers.
The Office for Disability Equity (ODE) provides ASL interpreting and captioning for university events. This includes lectures, ceremonies, conferences, and other campus events.
Availability: Services depend on request timing and provider availability.
This service excludes classes or academic programs. ODE already supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students in academic settings through a specific process.
Request deadlines
Submit your request as early as possible. Earlier requests receive higher priority, and complete information speeds things up. Recommended minimums:
- Standard events (lectures, ceremonies, conferences): at least 2 weeks ahead
- Performing arts (theater, live music): at least 1 month ahead, plus a copy of the script at least 3 weeks before the event
Requests made fewer than 3 business days before an event cannot be guaranteed, though ODE will try to fill them.
