"Toasting of the Bricks" Celebrated Craig Circle Update

craig circle of bricks at the university of montana — "A Toasting of the Bricks" event celebrated UM's major scholarship recipients, past and present, as the Craig Circle had its first major update since 2011. Recipients of select awards get a red brick engraved with their name, scholarship, and year received.

The Craig Circle of Scholars saw a long-awaited update, with University of Montana scholarship recipients from 2011 to 2022 receiving a brick to honor their accomplishments. The update was made possible by generous support from alumni Glen and Shrilyn Campbell.

The brick update was celebrated at the Craig Circle Alumni Group's gathering on Friday afternoon of homecoming weekend. Past and present scholarship recipients were in attendance to celebrate the update and each other. President Bodnar, Director Benes, and Glen Campbell spoke before the toast over the bricks.

Additionally, Rhodes Scholars Roger Baty, John Carlson, and William B Cook's bricks were re-engraved after sustaining damage.

The Office of External Scholarships and Fellowships plans to make annual updates for Fulbright Study/Research, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Truman, and Udall recipients.
