Research Interests
My overarching research interest involves determining risk factors for lower extremity (primarily knee) injury and the amelioration thereof, using different model populations. My PhD work investigated changes in motor patterning following ACL reconstruction to decrease risk of secondary injury, and continues in collaboration within the School and internationally. My post-doctoral work aimed to determine the effect of fear and pain on mechanical compensation patterns in landing, by utilizing a non-human bipedal population (laying hens) not subject to the same fears and motivations as humans, and continues with collaborations across campus with the Flight Laboratory and the University of Guelph. My current work builds on both experiences, aiming to elucidate the effects of social structures on movement, investigating the effect of self-objectification on mechanical compensation patterns during landing in young women.
I also contribute to health care utilization research through my work at the UMPT clinic both on campus and at Partnership Health Center.
