Meet the Team

UDASH Student Drivers

The UDASH bus service is operated primarily by student drivers. Upon hire, student drivers commit to a training program where they learn the skills necessary to earn a Commercial Driver's License. Our team is dedicated to delivering you safely and efficiently to and from campus!

Student Lead Drivers

  • Abi pointing to the arch at Arches national park.

    Abi Tyler

Abi is a third-year student studying Music Composition. She plays percussion in multiple campus ensembles and even sings with the UM Roots Ensemble. She is also actively involved with the DHC. When not too busy driving, you can find her climbing, skiing, hiking, biking, paddle boarding, taking .5 pictures of everyone, reading, or baking.
  • Nathan standing on the bus bumper

    Nathan Miller

Nathan is a sophomore studying microbiology. He loves doing anything outdoors: backpacking, skiing, looking at bugs, and spending a day out on the water fishing or just relaxing. He loves to (attempt) to cook just about anything. His favorite things about working with ASUM transportation are the flexibility it brings, the amazing people you work and interact with each day, and the sense of purpose it brings to his daily life.
  • Josiah mountain biking

    Josiah Anderson

Josiah is a fourth-year undergrad who grew up in Tacoma, WA, studying climbing and backpacking, and allegedly also Environmental Studies and Music. When not driving buses, Josiah is likely to be found baking vegan cookies, riding or repairing bikes that have more seats than the statistical average, falling off of tall rocks, trying to imitate the sounds of Bus 6, performing with the Missoula Symphony, and various other ensembles, failing to make telemark turns on icy hardpack on skis with no edges, and generally just trying his best to love and care for the Earth and all the many inhabitants.
  • Gabe playing the violin

    Gabe Kantor

Gabe is a sophomore born and raised in Missoula. He is studying Violin Performance and Wildlife Biology here at UM. You might see Gabe performing in all kinds of ensembles from the Missoula Symphony to playing fiddle on the bus with the UM Roots Band. In the winter he enjoys backcountry skiing, and in the summer you can find him climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, and riding a triple tandem bike named Frank with his friends.
  • Selfie of Bob

    Bob Walzer

Bob is a 3rd-year graduate student in UM’s pharmacy program.  As such, when not driving the bus, you can usually find him locked in a room with his classmates studying, interspersed with conversations about nonsense theoretical situations that no one in their right mind would ever think about.  Outside of that, he enjoys reading, spending far too much time (aka not enough) playing Dungeons & Dragons, and anything involving storytelling.

Transportation Staff

  • Vickie on a bus

    Transportation Director - Vickie Rectenwald

Vickie began working on degrees in Marketing and International Business at UM's College of Business in 2013, at which time she also began working as a student bus driver for ASUM Transportation. Upon her graduation in 2017, she transitioned into the role of a Transit Operations Supervisor, gaining two years of experience in this staff role before moving abroad for post-graduate studies. Her personal passion and dedication to sustainable transportation led to her return as Director of ASUM Transportation in 2022. She loves bringing people together to find common ground, and finding creative solutions to complex problems. Vickie is bilingual (Spanish), enjoys traveling the world, being out in nature, gardening, and cooking, and is also working on becoming a certified olive oil sommelier.

    Fleet Manager - Joe Railsback

Joe is a senior pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry. After growing up in Colorado, he’s learned to love the great outdoors and is eager to jump on any opportunity to go hiking, camping, or cycling. As part of the UDASH team since Autumn of 2020, Joe has appreciated the welcoming environment and the opportunities to improve his professional skills. As the fleet manager, Joe can often be found in the Bus Barn—inside, on top of, or under a bus. When he’s not working or exploring outside, Joe enjoys sitting by a fire and spending time with friends.

Since then, Paige has been a Lead Driver, Assistant Supervisor, and now Transit Operations Manager. You can find them training new drivers or helping with maintenance in the bus barn. In their free time, Paige enjoys trying new recipes or attempting to recreate old ones from memory. They spend time creating art in various media, such as music, sewing, or drawing. You might also spot them climbing some rocks.

She loves helping everyone she knows learn about sustainability and environmental stewardship. She is passionate about active transportation, e-mobility, and accessible transportation for all.
