Who can join BAP?

Undergraduate, pre-MAcct/MBA and graduate students may join BAP if they meet certain criteria. Membership in BAP occurs in two stages:  one or more semesters as a candidate, followed by being initiated into full membership. In order to fully benefit from BAP activities, students seeking to become BAP candidates must declare their candidacy when they have at least the equivalent of one academic year (two semesters) remaining prior to graduation from their current program or completing pre-MAcct/MBA coursework.

Undergraduate and Pre-MAcct/MBA Student Requirements

In order to become a candidate, an undergraduate or pre-MAcct/MBA student must:

  • have declared a major in accounting, finance or management information systems (or have stated an intention to declare a major in one of these areas),
  • have completed 30 credit hours of university coursework and
  • have attained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.

In order to become a member, an undergraduate or pre-MAcct/MBA student must:

  • have completed, in addition to 60 credits (junior status), at least one upper-level course beyond the business core in the student's major,
  • have been a candidate for at least one semester and be “in good standing” with BAP,
  • have a cumulative GPA in upper level major courses of at least 3.0,
  • have attained at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0, or
  • have achieved a rank within the top 35% of their university class, or
  • have attained at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA on the most recent 30 semester hours and
  • agree to fully participate in the organization and pay the chapter dues until graduation or completion of the pre-MAcct/MBA coursework.

Graduate Student Requirements

In order to become a candidate, a graduate student must:

  • be enrolled and in good standing in the MAcct or MBA program.

In order to become a member, a graduate student must:

  • have been a graduate student candidate for at least one semester and be “in good standing” with BAP,
  • have a cumulative GPA in all graduate coursework of at least 3.0, and
  • agree to fully participate in the organization and pay the chapter dues until graduation from the graduate program.

Note: Signing the contract gives the faculty advisor permission to verify the academic requirements for membership or candidacy for the student.

What is required of a candidate/member?

BAP members

Candidate Initiation Fee

If this is your first semester being a candidate, you are required to pay a one-time initiation fee of $65, almost all of which covers the National BAP new candidate fee.

Chapter Dues

After your first semester, the hapter requires its candidates and members to pay $35 in dues per semester. If you have been a candidate for one semester and are going to be a candidate for a second semester, you only need to pay $35 for the second semester. Dues help defray the cost of food at meetings, other operating costs, national annual fees, the funding of two scholarships specifically for our Beta Alpha Psi members and travel costs to regional and national meetings.

Students are expected to pay chapter dues and fully participate in Beta Alpha Psi according to the following participation requirements.
