Equal Opportunity

Equal Opportunity is a term used to describe policies and practices that prohibit discrimination on the basis of a protected class.  It applies to education, employment, and participation in University activities.

Protected classes include: race, color, sex, age, religion, creed, political ideas, marital or familial status, physical or mental disability, pregnancy, national origin or ancestry, veteran status, status as a member of the military, and sexual orientation.

Prohibited discrimination can be overt or subtle.  Forms of prohibited discrimination include: Disparate Treatment; Harassment; Adverse Impact; Failure to Provide Reasonable Accommodation; and Retaliation.
