Student Coordinator

Job Description

The student coordinator's primary responsibilities include communication with FWE leaders and gear and food coordinators. They will check in and meet with food and gear coordinators periodically to gauge progress and ascertain whether or not additional support is required.

The student coordinator is also involved in leader outreach, hiring and training. This includes sending out emails to potential leaders, holding leader information sessions on campus and doing classroom visits to recruit leaders. After the leader application deadline has passed and leaders have been hired, the student coordinator will work with the food and gear coordinators and professional staff to plan the spring leader training. The student coordinator will plan the schedule and activities for the training and facilitate the training.

During the summer, the student coordinator will be the main source of communication with trip leaders, answering questions leaders have and keeping them updated with the schedule for FWE. The student coordinator will facilitate the leader prep days that take place before FWE as well as planning the schedule for FWE.

Qualifications

Communication Skills

The student coordinator works closely with professional and student staff and must be an effective communicator and collaborator. Applicants must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups.

Backcountry Skills

Applicants must have Wilderness First Responder training and be able to work closely with an trip leaders, planning and facilitating the leader training that prepares them for backcountry backpacking trip with novices.

Additional Expectations

The person hired to fill this role should be a self-starter with strong organizational skills. Familiarity with the program is required.
