Penny Clifton, MSN, RN, CNRN, SCRN

Penny CliftonPenny Clifton, MSN, RN, CNRN, SCRN, has been a registered nurse since 1981. She has been the stroke coordinator for Intermountain Health St. Vincent Regional Hospital, a Joint Commission Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center, and a member of the Montana Stroke Workgroup for the past 14 years. She has served on both the Clinical and EMS Subcommittees for the Mission LifeLine: Stroke Montana program over the last 4 years and was instrumental in the development of the Stroke Recognition Program for rural facilities administered by the CV Division of the MT DPHHS. An avid educator, she has been providing nurse and EMS education in hospitals, ambulance companies, fire departments and conferences throughout Eastern MT.

Daniel Davis, MD

Daniel Davis

Dr. Daniel Davis completed his undergraduate training at UCLA, where he was a National Merit, Regents, and Alumni Scholar as well as a varsity member of the 1987 NCAA National Championship Volleyball Team.  He attended the UCSD School of Medicine, where he remained for his residency training in emergency medicine.  As a third year resident, he was recognized as the “UCSD Medical Center House Officer of the Year,” the first for his department.  During his senior year, he served as Chief Resident and was named “Outstanding Emergency Medicine Resident.”  As a resident, Dr. Davis developed research interests in brain injury and resuscitation and was recognized nationally as the 1999 recipient of the “Council of Residency Directors Academic Achievement Award.”  He took a lead role in the San Diego Paramedic RSI Trial under the guidance of Dr. David Hoyt of the UCSD Division of Trauma.  In 2001-2003 Dr. Davis was the recipient of the SAEM Scholarly Sabbatical Grant and the UCSD Rosen Faculty Research Development Grant, which afforded him the opportunity to explore the relative roles of excitotoxicity and apoptosis in ischemic brain injury.  Dr. Davis received the 2003 SAEM Young Investigator Award and has won the SAEM Young Investigator Research Paper Award twice.  He was faculty in the UCSD Department of Emergency Medicine through 2015, where he served as Ultrasound Co-Director, Medical Student Director, Founder/Director of the UCSD Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program, Base Hospital Medical Director, Resuscitation Director, and Founder/Director of the UCSD Center for Resuscitation Science.  He currently serves as Medical Director for Air Methods and EMS Medical Director for Logan Health.  He works clinically as an emergency physician, hospitalist, and primary care physician at Logan Health in Chester, Shelby, and Cut Bank.  Dr. Davis has over 200 published journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters.  He has received grant support from multiple external agencies, including the NIH, American Heart Association, Department of Defense, Zoll Medical, the UC Regents, Care Fusion, and Masimo Corporation and served as Principal Investigator of the prestigious Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium grant.  Perhaps his most impactful work to date has been the development of the Advanced Resuscitation Training (ART) program, which uniquely links performance improvement data to training to reduce preventable deaths in the hospital and prehospital environments.  He speaks internationally on the topics of resuscitation, ventilation, traumatic brain injury, and prehospital medicine.

 

Ryne Dougherty, MD, MBA

dougherty.photo.jpgRyne is from Missoula and attended Carroll College in Helena. He completed medical school at the Mayo Clinic, Business School at Arizona State University, and his residency in interventional radiology at the University of Michigan. He is happy to have returned home to Montana with his wife and 4 kids to fishing, skiing and cheer on the Grizzlies (and Wolverines from a far).

Jason Gleason, NDP, NP-C, USAF Lieutenant Colonel (RET)

Jason Gleason

Dr. Jason Gleason is a board-certified nurse practitioner with over two decades of experience in emergency medicine, primary care diabetes and stroke care. Dr. Gleason served in the military for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2015. He is a distinguished national speaker, award-nominated documentary producer and host of the Best Life NPs Podcast.  He provides care for our National Heroes at the Veterans Administration and is a faculty member at Fitzgerald Health Education Associates by Colibri. Dr. Gleason contributes to various local and national councils including the Montana Stroke Workgroup, National VA APRN council, the National VA/Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guidelines for Stroke workgroup and the advisory board for Carelinx by Sharecare founded by WebMD’s Jeff Arnold with support from Oprah Winfrey Sony Pictures Television and Discovery. Dr. Gleason has been recognized from the floor of the U.S. Senate for his service as an NP. He cherishes his role as a husband and being the father of three remarkable sons.

Kurt Lindsay, MD

Kurt LindsayKurt Lindsay, MD, returned to the Flathead Valley from Oregon Health & Science University in 2009, where he worked at the Oregon Stroke Center within the department of neurology. He was born and raised in the Flathead Valley and always hoped to return after his training. Dr. Lindsay was valedictorian of his graduating class at Flathead High School before earning his Bachelor of Science from Stanford University and then a Master of Science in cancer biology at Boise State University. He attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland and was awarded a fellowship in vascular neurology (stroke) in 2009. While Dr. Lindsay treats a variety of general neurological conditions, including multiple sclerosis (MS), migraine headaches, Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy, he specializes in the care of stroke patients. Dr. Lindsay serves as medical director of Logan Health’s growing stroke and Telestroke programs. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Lindsay enjoys time with his young daughters and is an avid photographer - capturing the natural beauty of northwest Montana’s wildlife and landscape.

Patrick Lyden, MD

Lyden PhotoDr. Lyden is Professor of Physiology & Neuroscience and Neurology at the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute in the Keck School of Medicine at USC. Dr. Lyden helped lead the pivotal NINDS t-PA for Acute Stroke Trial, the first proven therapy for stroke.  He is recognized globally for leadership in stroke therapy, having led large, multi-national trials for NIH and industry. Dr. Lyden is the Principal investigator of the NINDS-sponsored Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network, or SPAN, the first multi-site trial intended to identify candidate treatments likely to succeed in human clinical trials, and also Principal Investigator of the pivotal phase 3 trial RHAPSODY-2.  He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Dr. Lyden has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurology Association, American Heart Association, and the European Stroke Organization. In 2019 he was awarded the prestigious William M. Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke by the American Heart Association. Dr. Lyden’s laboratory works on finding new treatments for stroke, and understanding how the brain acts to save itself during stroke. Previously, the Lab pioneered therapeutic hypothermia for ischemic stroke. Recently, the Lyden Lab discovered a novel ‘help-me’ signal from neurons to astrocytes, the serine protease thrombin. Now the Lab seeks to translate this finding into novel treatment for acute stroke.

Katelyn Marsden, MD

Katelyn MarsdenKatelyn Marsden, MD, joined Logan Health Neuroscience & Spine in August 2023. A native of Canada, she has been living in the United States since her residency and fellowship. She completed her undergraduate and earned a master’s degree from the University of British Columbia and subsequently attended medical school at the University of Limerick in Ireland. Dr. Marsden later did her internal medicine internship and neurology residency at the University of Washington. During her time in the Seattle area, she was named the Harborview Medical Center Emergency Department Outstanding Consultant of the Year Award (2020-2021) and the University of Washington Medical Center Emergency Department Outstanding Consultant of the Year (2021-22). She also completed a vascular neurology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Outside of work, Dr. Marsden enjoys spending time trail running, kayaking, crafting and cross country and downhill skiing.

Thomas Price, RN, BSN

Tom PriceTom Price is the Director of Critical Care at Bitterroot Health.  With nearly four years of experience at Bitterroot Health, Tom is deeply committed to providing top-notch healthcare in his community.  Tom’s journey to Montana was fueled by a passion for mountain biking and a desire to be close to family.  Prior to joining Bitterroot Health, Tom served as the Emergency Room Director at Alaska Regional and gained valuable experience in the Burn Trauma ICU at the University of Utah.  Both in Alaska and in Montana, Tom as worked alongside dedicated professionals to standardize stroke care protocols, emphasizing the same urgency as with trauma cases.  This commitment has led to tangible improvements, notably reducing our door-to-needle and door-to-transport times, ultimately enhancing outcomes for those served.

Theresa (Polly) Troutman

Polly PhotoPolly Troutman MSN, RN is the Neuroscience and Palliative Care Program Manager at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, MT, a Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center since 2007, providing Thrombectomy services since 2011. She is a graduate of Montana State University and has worked in variety of roles including Stroke and Chest Pain Coordinator, Diabetes Educator, Clinical Educator and Quality Specialist in her 25+ years at St. Pat’s.  She one of the founding members of the MT Stroke Work Group in 2005 and rejoined in 2015. In 2018, Polly’s mother suffered a severely disabling and life changing right Middle Cerebral Ischemic Stroke. This redefined  Polly’s personal and professional life and gave her a greater understanding of living with a stroke post-acute hospitalization.  Outside of work, she enjoys spending in nature, reading (most recently an epic fantasy series), growing hot peppers, cooking and traveling to Vermont, the Bay Area and Puget Sound to visit friends and family.

Kellie Wilson, PharmD

With a deep passion for healthcare and a desire to make a positive impact on people's lives, she has dedicated her professional journey to providing quality pharmaceutical care to her community. After completing a comprehensive education in pharmacy, Kellie embarked on her career path by working in both retail and long-term care settings. This diverse experience allowed her to gain a broad understanding of the healthcare landscape and develop a unique perspective on patient care. Throughout her career, Kellie has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to improving the lives of others. Not only has she provided compassionate care to patients in various settings, but she also played a crucial role in establishing a new long-term care pharmacy in Montana. Her dedication and expertise was instrumental in ensuring that patients received the medications they needed promptly and accurately. In addition to her professional achievements, Kellie is a loving parent of four children. Balancing the demands of a thriving career with the responsibilities of raising a family is no small feat, but Kellie has effectively managed to excel in both realms, thanks to her exceptional time management skills, perseverance, and unwavering dedication. Recognized for her expertise and industry knowledge, Kellie leveraged her experience to contribute to the profession on a broader scale. She had the opportunity to collaborate with NurseCe4Less, a respected continuing education provider, where they utilized her expertise to write educational content that helps enhance the knowledge and skills of nurses.
