Integrate into UM’s strategic enrollment plan efforts to recruit historically underrepresented students

Near-term Actions

  • Establish diversity, equity, and access practices in recruitment and admissions activities to attract a more diverse student body; implement annual trainings for recruiters and all enrollment management offices
  • Actively showcase and use in recruitment efforts UM and Missoula events pertinent to specific student populations
  • Integrate materials focused on our diverse community into recruitment efforts
  • Explore opportunities for strategic translation of recruitment materials into other languages, especially for parents of prospective domestic and international students

Future Actions

  • Hire recruiters from diverse populations
  • Identify and send recruiters to national conferences ideal for recruitment of diverse students (e.g., American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) Conference, Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Conference, etc.)
  • Partner with students and alumni in recruitment visits and outreach

Completed and Ongoing Actions

  • Hired a Tribal Outreach Specialist who is focused on recruitment
  • Made optional SAT and ACT scores in UM’s admission process
  • Distribution of McNair Scholars list to departments to encourage recruitment of a diverse pool of talented applicants
