Applying for UM Scholarships

The University of Montana administers most scholarship funds through the UM Scholarship Portal. The portal is accessible to all incoming and continuing UM students and offers one centralized general application, regardless of a student’s major or program of study.

New students pursuing their first bachelor's degree do not need to complete the General Application to be considered for the UMAAS, WUE, or Non-Resident UMAAS merit scholarships. Awarding for those is based on their application for admission.

If a new student wants to be considered for a departmental or renewable scholarship, they should complete the General Application in the UM Scholarship Portal.

The application deadlines vary by department. New and continuing students who submit a completed General Application by March 1 receive first consideration for the scholarships.

Information about departmental scholarships is available at departmental websites and/or in the UM Scholarship Portal.

Portal Instructions

Only individuals with an active UM Net ID can login to the UM Scholarship Portal. Any student admitted to the University of Montana is issued a UM Net ID.

All students must answer the questions on the general application to be considered for either campus-wide or departmental scholarships. Some departments also have a second "conditional" application that will only be available to students who have a major in that department.

Once the applications have been submitted, the system will automatically connect the student with the appropriate scholarship opportunities for which they may be eligible. Some of these opportunities require that the student answer additional questions to be considered for a specific award.

Students will receive regular system messages regarding opening dates for additional scholarship opportunities along with notification of awards.
