$499,000 Federal Grant Supports Humanities at UM

Humanities disciplines at the University were awarded a $499,000 in grant funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities made possible through the American Rescue Plan. This was the maximum level of grant funding, and assisted in supporting programming, classes and scholarship in history, literature, anthropology, Native American Studies, and other humanities-based fields between 2022 and 2023. 

UM faculty awarded the grant include:

• Kelly Dixon, Professor, Department of Anthropology
• Ashby Kinch, Dean, UM Graduate School and Professor of English
• Kyle G. Volk, chair, Associate Professor, Department of History
• Scott Arcenas, Assistant Professor, Department of History
• Kathryn Shanley,Professor (retired), Native American Studies
