2018 Graduation & Hooding
The 2018 ceremony took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, and kicked off with a processional led by the Celtic Dragon Pipe Band and a welcome by Paul Kirgis, Dean and Professor of Law. William Whitegrass, Audrey Whitegrass and Violet Whitegrass sang the American Indian Honor Song to honor the great accomplishments of the students. Associate Dean of Students and Professor Hillary Wandler announced the student awards. A complete list of students and their graduation awards can be found here. John Acher Byorth, voted on by the Class of 2018, delivered the student address, followed by Denise Juneau, Montana’s former Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau, who delivered the commencement address. Juneau, a 2004 graduate of the law school, was selected in April as the next superintendent for Seattle Public Schools, the first Native American superintendent in the city’s history. Professor Emeritus Greg Munro announced the graduating class as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor Larry Howell bestowed their hoods. University of Montana President Seth Bodnar conferred the degrees, and a reception followed at the School of Law. View a slideshow of the ceremony below.
