Dear Campus Community,

As we approach the beginning of a new academic year, campus is waking up to a new and returning group of smart, hopeful and promising students. Their enthusiasm inspires me! And as you join me in welcoming them, I invite you to save the date for three events specifically for UM employees: Fall Welcome, Movies on the Oval and the State of the University address. 

Fall Welcome, Friday, Aug. 25, 8:30-10 a.m., Oval

Similar to previous years, Fall Welcome will feature breakfast treats and coffee in a casual atmosphere where employees can reconnect with colleagues from across campus. I will provide brief remarks at 9 a.m.

Movies on the Oval, Friday, Aug. 25, 6 and 8 p.m., Oval

Grab a picnic blanket or low lawn chair and join us at 6 p.m. for a screening of “Moana” and at 8 p.m. for “Dungeons and Dragons.” Employees and students are welcome to bring guests or attend alone. Complimentary popcorn will be available during the movie, as will soda and water for this alcohol-free event. 

State of the University, Thursday, Sept. 28, 9 a.m., ALI Auditorium

All employees are invited to the State of the University Address. Light refreshments will be served starting at 9 a.m., followed by a program at 9:15 a.m. We are returning to the title of State of the University, one used in the past. This event will offer an understanding of the University’s priorities for the coming year, outlined in our FY24 Playbook, as well as provide updates on key projects and initiatives.

Like most of you, I am eager to get to know our new students in the coming weeks as we embark on a new academic year. Until then, thank you for all you are doing to prepare for their arrival and enjoy the remaining weeks of Missoula’s beautiful summer.
