Campus Thrift 2022

CAMPUS THRIFT

Campus Thrift is UM’s annual spring event to collect unwanted items from students leaving the
residence halls and offer still-usable items back to the campus community at a discounted rate. This event is hosted by UM's Office of Sustainability and UM Housing with proceeds from this event supporting UM’s Sustainability and Recycling Programs. Items not sold in the sale are donated to local thrift stores and nonprofit organizations.

The 2022 Campus Thrift Sale will take place at UM’s Schreiber Gym from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. Donated items will be collected April 12, April 13, and the morning of May 14 at designated sites outside of university dorms.

Campus Thrift:WHEN: COLLECTION will take place Thursday May 12, Friday May 13 (12:00 to 5:00), and the morning of Saturday May 14 (9:00 to 12:00). Volunteers should expect to meet at 1 of the 3 designated collection areas (noted below on map) where items will be collected from students who have items to donate. We hope that our volunteers can accept most any item that is in reasonably good condition and can expect to be sold at our Campus Thrift Sale. Volunteers will be provided with a variety of boxes and can do some sorting of items on site. Volunteers must enforce our event policy to prevent the drop off of unusable items such as mattresses or furniture that cannot be easily moved or sold at the Campus Thrift Sale. SETUP will take palce Monday May 16 and Tuesday May 17 from 9:00 to 5:00. Volunteers should expect to help us unload materials into Schreiber Gym on Monday morning and help sort the variety of items that have been donated to the event. Between Monday and Tuesday, we will transform the Shreiber Gym into a temporary sales floor for the sale on Wednesday. At this time, we will categorize items and apply prices to individual and groups of items. For example, a nice lamp may sell for $5, whereas clothes may sell for .25, .50, or $1 per item or sold by the bag. SALE will take place Wednesday, May 18 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Campus Thrift volunteers will be present to assist with crowd control, maintaining physicial distancing, assisting customers who have questions, setting prices on miscellaneous items, working the cash register, general cleaning and upkeep, and helping to close the sale and load leftover materials for non-profit organizations after the sale has concluded. WHERE: Collection sites for on-campus students include Jesse Hall, front of Craig Hall, and between Duniway and Miller Hall. See map for collection sites below. The SALE will take place in the Schreiber Gym, the building to the south of the library along Campus Drive.

Volunteers from the campus community are needed to help collect items at one of three collection areas on campus, as well as help set up and work the campus thrift event. If you have a knack for thrifting and can help with this event, sign up for any open shifts on the following form:
