Side Bar & Featured Links Technical Guide

The Side Bar is a feature available on default pages that will display featured content to the right of your main content. This can aid in the visual promotion of added resources that you would like for your users to easily access.   Primarily, this is the location of your Featured Links.  You can either choose from a list of pre-styled button options or upload your own custom images.

Featured Link Implementation

You will need:

  • Link name(s)
  • The link URL(s)
  • The link image in a JPEG or PNG format (optional)
  • Link descriptor(s) (optional)

Sidebar Options

Column Size:

Small: This creates a smaller column width to place your content. There will be more space available for your main content.

Featured Link:

You can add Featured Links by editing the Sidebar >> Featured Link section of your Setup Block.  Simply add or remove Featured Links by selecting the “+” and “-“ buttons in the top left corner of that section.

For each Featured Link you can specify:

Link Title: This is the text that will be displayed on a pre-styled button or used as the alt text for an image button.  We recommend something short but descriptive.

Button Style: Button style features a variety of colors for you to choose from along with a text-only option.  These options are pre-styled and can quickly add a splash of color to your home page.

Button Image: (Optional) You can upload a JPEG or PNG file to use as the clickable area for your button.  For accessibility purposes, please note that any text appearing in the image should be used as the Link Title text. The images work best at 470px by 95px, however the height can vary based on your needs.

Internal Link -or- External Link: To add an internal link you will click on the Internal Link search option and navigate to your page in Cascade. To add an external link you need to place the full URL in the External Link field.

Content: (Optional) The content section will place content directly below the featured link. This area can be used to create an extended description for the link.
