Imdad Baloch

Mr. Imdad Baloch works in the field of Public Health in Balochistan, Pakistan. He received his Master’s in Social Work from the University of Balochistan. He has been working on different programs on primary healthcare, nutrition services provision programs, human development programs and life-saving interventions from drought, floods and earthquakes, with WHO, UN-WFP, John Snow Inc. (USAID Projects), and other prominent local humanitarian organizations. Mr. Baloch is one of the founding members of a non-profit organization called Health & Nutrition Society Balochistan and also the Civil Society Balochistan, which engages with civil rights and social justice in the Balochistan region of Pakistan. Mr. Baloch was an active member of Baloch Student Organization (BSO) during his student life. He bears sound knowledge on local issues and has vision for possible solutions for them. Recently, he was working with the Balochistan Nutrition Program as District Nutrition Officer. He intends to contribute to Pakistan’s management of public health and malnutrition-related services and policies.  

Pierre Dupenor

Pierre Negaud Dupenor is from Haiti. He holds master's degrees in Economic and Social Administration, International Management of territories, and Social Communication. Between 2013 and 2015, he worked as a project coordinator in Haiti for the French nonprofit association, France Haïti Développement (AFHAD). From 2015 to February 2018, he was national communications officer for the UN Agency, FAO, in Haiti. In 2017, he played a key role in the creation of the Parliamentary Front against Hunger in Haiti (FPFH). Recently, he has been teaching at the University of Haiti State (UEH), and chairing the non-profit organization, Alter-Aide. Since February 2018, he has been working as a communication specialist for the USAID-funded project, LAC Reads Capacity Program (LRCP), and was recently promoted to deputy director. During his journey in the US, Mr. Dupenor expects to strengthen his capacities in Communication and International development at the University of Arizona.

Martin Pio John Faki

Martin Pio John Faki is from Wau, South Sudan in Africa. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Community Studies and Rural Development, specializing in Social Work. He has worked for various governmental and international non-governmental organizations and has held multiple positions within those organizations. He completed an international training on participatory planning for poverty reduction and sustainable development in India and attended numerous trainings in his country. Presently, Mr. Faki is an Assistant Lecturer at the University of Bahr Ghazal, Department of Rural Development, and a manager at Volontariato Internazionale Donna Educazione Sviluppo, an organization that promotes food security and healthy nutrition in his home county. During his stay in the USA, Mr. Faki plans to study Agriculture and Rural Development at Cornell University to gain practical experience and develop a strategy that seeks to foster sustainable development.

Hlaing Hlaing Htoon

Ms. Hlaing Hlaing Htoon is an assistant lecturer in the Marine Science Department at Mawlamyine University, Mon State, Myanmar. Hlaing Hlaing enjoys learning, sharing her knowledge and experience with other people, and improving her professional skills. She received  BSc, MRes and PhD degrees with Marine Science specialization from Mawlamyine University. She also received a Master of Science in Marine Science from Myeik University. Apart from her own teaching and research duties, she spends her spare time in community development and social activities, focusing on statesmanship and entrepreneurship for local development. Hlaing Hlaing  believes very strongly in being a representative of her own region in Environmental Policy, Resource Management and Climate Change. After finishing the long-term English program at the University of Montana, she will go to Cornell University to continue her professional development in Environmental Science.

Patricia Idrobo

Patricia Idrobo is from Ecuador and was the National Currency Director in the Central Bank of Ecuador. Her position has functions related to cash and national treasury management, specifically to the supply of cash from the U.S Federal Reserve Banks. Ms. Idrobo focused her activities on guaranteeing the operation of the dollarization system in Ecuador. An economist who has received master’s degrees in Spain in Project Management and Public Administration & Government, Ms. Idrobo has more than twelve years of experience in public organizations, most of them dedicated to analyzing, designing and monitoring financial strategies associated with monetary policy. After the University of Montana, she is going to Boston University to specialize in Finance and Banking with an emphasis in financial inclusion. When the Humphrey Fellowship ends, she will return to Quito to help build affordable means of electronic payment in Ecuador, a country that is currently highly dependent on circulating cash.  

Mexan Mapouka

Dr. Mapouka Mexan is a medical doctor. He was born in Central African Republic. He finished his education at the University of Bangui in 2017 where he got his degree as a general practitioner. He started to work with Doctors Without Borders as a physician specializing in HIV/AIDS in 2016; then, he began to work with to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2017. During his work experiences, he has observed an increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in Central African Republic, which  has become a public health problem. He decided to find a solution for this problem by working with his colleagues to educate the public and communicate with and treat people suffering from AIDS/HIV. He is seeking resources to help the next generation by promoting health, building infrastructure, and facilitating access to health care.

Alain Georges Moukoko

A judge from Gabon, Alain Georges Moukoko received a master’s degree in law enforcement at the National School of Magistracy in 2007. He was also trained on Humanitarian Law at the International Law Enforcement Academy of Botswana in 2012, then on leadership and the fight against corruption, in addition to transnational crimes at the International Law Enforcement Academy of Roswell, New Mexico. Before being selected as a Humphrey Fellow, Mr. Moukoko received the Iqbal Masih Award in 2015 for the fight against child trafficking. Currently, he is focusing on environmental issues in Gabon, having arrested several networks of poachers and illegal loggers. His sentencing of corrupt officials has led to more ethical behavior. Through the Humphrey Fellowship, Mr. Moukoko hopes to obtain the necessary tools to influence the creation of environmental courts and help improve the framework for environmental protection in his country.

Zuomei Ning

Zuomei Ning comes  from Xining City, China. She graduated from Beijing Forestry University, where she was involved in environmental issues as a volunteer. From 2010 to 2015, as the leader of China Green Student Forum, she worked extensively in capacity-building to promote youth participation in environment protection. In 2016, she relocated to Qinghai province, to become executive director of Snow Alliance (SA) which is an NGO aimed at nature conservation and public education. Under Ms. Ning’s  leadership, SA was able to fill the data gap on black-necked crane in Qilian Mountain by specialized field investigation. After eight years, she has gained rich experiences in public participation and habitat preservation. She feels very proud to share her insights on China and is eager to learn more about citizen science in the US. In the future, she intends to contribute to nature conservation in northwest China by combining social development and eco-friendliness.

Julio Perez

Julio is from El Salvador. When he was in high school, he was awarded a scholarship from the Martín Baró Cooperative (CMB), which supported him through his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Central American University El Salvador, where he is currently completing a master’s degree in Political Science. As an undergraduate student, he began to work for CMB, in collaboration with Santa Clara University, to coordinate programs for study-abroad students from the U.S. In 2004, he was hired by the Romero Scholarship Program as a result of the US-Salvadoran student exchange. He still volunteers for the CMB, as well as Ellacuría Program, a student community service program. As a former scholarship student himself, he realizes the impact student support can have on a person’s life. He is incredibly grateful for the chance to help an increasing number of students develop their degree skills and also to be able to share his life and friendship, as well as values and principles inspired by Salvadoran history.

Bunnath Phann

Bunnath Phann graduated with a Master’s of Education in Management and Planning from the Royal University of Phnom Penh, which provided groundwork for his  critical experience in educational development in Cambodia. Currently, he is an Operation Manager for the New Generation School Initiative of Kampuchean Action to Promote Education (KAPE), which is an educational reforming program supported by the Royal Government of Cambodia through the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS). This initiative is very well-known in the country and regarded as a  successful program. Bunnath has the main roles of leading and managing all operations of the program and is the focal point for communication with the Education Minister. He is involved in policy development and other developmental guidelines for education. Bunnath is very passionate about Cambodian educational reform because he believes that only quality education can lead to people becoming key actors in making positive changes in their communities and country.

Rommel Reconco

Rommel Reconco is from La Lima, Honduras. He has a B.A. in Agricultural Science and Production, holds a Master’s in Finance, a Master’s in Business Administration with emphasis in Finance, and is currently a Ph.D candidate in Business Management. He is also a member of Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, and has been an international consultant on issues of economic optimization and corporate finance. He has over twenty years of experience in teaching. He has been a Grain and Seed Chain Coordinator, including a position in which he oversaw the genetically modified corn seed production for Monsanto. He was the Head of the Agribusiness Management Department at Zamorano University, where he was responsible for administrative, academic, research and outreach activities of the department. He hopes to study the Honduran coffee chain, in an attempt to improve the quality of life for small Honduran coffee growers.

Mohamed Sankare

Mohamed Sankare, from Mali, graduated from SupDeCo School of Business in Senegal and received his MSc in Finance and Auditing in 2008. He then graduated from the Aix-Marseille University Master’s program of organized financial crime prevention in France. He has worked as an Anti-Money-Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CFT) analyst for ten years in several financial institutions and is currently responsible for the AML/CFT Unit of Orange Money Mali, a financial institution in the mobile money field. With the support of the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, Mr. Sankare aims to strengthen his academic and professional capacity by learning from and sharing experiences with US institutions, regulators and universities in countering organized financial crime. He hopes also to pass certifications needed to become a recognized AML Specialist. Money laundering and terrorism financing must be defeated because they have devastating consequences for the economy, society and security of countries.

Beyo Yves

Beyo Mbaiodji Yves is from Chad. He is an architect at Nickel Entreprise and the current Head of Department of Studies, Planning and Project Monitoring (EPS). Beyo received Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture at Ahmadu Bello University in 2012. He was awarded best presentation on ‘Glass and Ceramics Materials” during the UNESCO Conference in Technology and Education at AGH University of Science and Technology in 2015. He also received an Engineering Certificate in the field of Material Science in AGH University of Science and Technology at Krakow, Poland in 2016. Focusing on his experiences in the construction industry in his country, he plans to incorporate US urban and regional planning strategies in Chad. He is most concerned about the habitation system in his country because many cities face challenges of transformation and management with respect to planning, livability and inclusiveness.

Nader Zayer

Nader is from Tunisia. He has been a public service consultant at the Tunisian General Authority of Public-Private Partnerships under the Tunisian Presidency of the Government since 2017. He previously worked for six years in public procurements for the Tunisian Ministry of Education. He graduated in statistics and information analysis engineering from the University of Carthage in 2005 and completed the highest level of training at the Tunisian National School of Administration in 2011. After four months of pre-academic English language studies at UM, he will begin studies in the fields of public policy analysis and public administration at the Maxwell School, University of Syracuse, during the course of his academic Humphrey year. He hopes that getting better skills in leadership, public management and international relations by the end of this program will help him achieve his professional and personal goals.
