Graduation
You must apply for graduation. Applications are available in the Registrar's Office (Aber Hall 623) at the front desk or from the Graduation Forms tab below.
Submitting the application one semester in advance allows time for your major department and the Registrar's Office to check for any problems while there is still time to correct them.
Deadlines and procedures may vary for Master's and Doctoral candidates. Please visit the Graduate School's graduation deadlines page for more information.

A separate application and graduation fee are required for each undergraduate degree or certificate.
The $42 graduation fee (or $57 if turned in during the late period) will be charged to your account when we process your application. There is no charge for minors or second majors. Students who wish to earn multiple baccalaureate degrees must complete an additional 30 credits for each subsequent baccalaureate degree (150 credits are required for two, 180 for three, etc.) and submit an application for each degree.
The graduation fee supports numerous items related to the official graduation of UM students. In addition to partially funding UM’s Commencement exercises, this fee covers management of the electronic degree audit system, graduation evaluation, diploma covers, diplomas, shipping costs and more.
- This application is for undergraduate students only. Graduation applications for graduate students can be found on the UM Graduate School Forms website.
- This application is a fillable PDF and can be submitted to your department via UM student email for Dean of School/Chair of Major/Designee approval. We recommend downloading/saving before completing the form.
- If submitted via email: your department may forward your approved application to your graduation coordinator for processing.
For general policies and procedures go to Graduation Appeals Procedures (section 203.50).
The Graduation Appeals Committee meets the final Monday of every month (subject to change). The appeals forms are due to the Registrar's Office one week before each meeting. For further information, please contact graduation@umontana.edu
