The Office of Public Safety is composed of the University of Montana Police Department and Parking Division. Both areas of OPS work in partnership with the campus community to provide the most professional, effective public safety services possible. From parking management to crime prevention, Public Safety is dedicated to supporting an environment which is safe and conducive to learning.
A man has been arrested in connection with the UM Alert sent out on July 5, 2014 at approx. 8:26 am. The UM Alert was a Timely Warning because a woman running on the Kim Williams Trail east of campus was grabbed by a man at approx. 5:40 pm on Saturday. The suspect is also being charged in connection with the attack on the Higgins St. Bridge Wednesday night.

The Agreement between the United States Department of Justice and the University of Montana Regarding the University of Montana Office Of Public Safety's Response to Sexual Assault.
The initial Independent Review Report covers June 19 - October 1, 2013.
The second report covers October 1 - April 1, 2014.
The purpose of this policy is to provide officers and investigators with guidelines for responding to reports of sexual assault, sexual intercourse without consent, assisting victims, collaborating with local health, outside law enforcement and service agencies, and conducting interviews with victims, witnesses, and suspects. Because of the special needs involved in sexual intercourse without consent investigations an attached appendix serves as an all-inclusive document that covers first response, investigation and prosecution.
