Reporting Options for Student Survivors

SARC advocates will support student survivors with whatever choices they wish to make. At SARC we believe that each person is the expert in their own experience. We do not pressure students to make any particular choice.

If you have additional questions, please give SARC a call at 406-243-4429. We are here to help!

Campus Reporting Options

Title IX

Title IX Regulations exist to ensure that students can pursue their education free of sex-based discrimination or harm. If a student has experienced harm based on any identity status and wants the University to know, and perhaps take action, the Title IX Coordinator in the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX can help.

UM Police

The University of Montana Police Department is invested in keeping individuals safe in the University community. If a student would like to report a crime to UMPD, they can find out more about the process on the UM Police website.

SARC and UMPD have a positive relationship; if a student would prefer to speak with an officer at the SARC office, UMPD will respond to SARC, so that students do not have to go to multiple locations or share their story multiple times.

If a student is unsure whether or not they want the University to know about their experience, starting with a confidential conversation at SARC, to learn more about reporting options, could be a good plan. Students can come to SARC during walk-in hours, 12-3pm, M-F, or reach out ahead of time to make an appointment during our regular hours, 9am-4pm, M-F. SARC’s office number is (406)243-4429 and email is sarc@mso.umt.edu
