    Practical Laser Cutting & Engraving

    Learn to use the FabLab's laser cutter/engraver to precisely cut and engrave various woods and plastics. Explore ceramic, glass, and metal etching as well. Various computer design programs will be covered. Students will go home with at least on laser etched/cut design of their own. Engraving and cutting materials may be chosen from among the FabLab's existing supply or students may purchase/provide their own materials.

    3-D Printing - Practical Projects

    Print your own object! Whether you are new to the topic or have worked a good bit with our won printers, this class will be a great place to build your knowledge of what's out there in the the world of 3-D printing. Class will cover how to run the FabLab's 3-D resin and FDM printers and how to take pre-existing designs and print them. Students will also learn how to modify existing designs and design 3-D objects from scratch in programs such as Tinkercad, Fusion 360, Rhino, and Gravity Sketch. Students will also explore 3-D design in a variety of virtual reality programs. 3-D scanning will be applied with a variety of approaches and software. Students will complete at least one 3-D printing project of their choice. For student projects, printing materials may be chosen from among FabLab's existing supply or students may purchase/provide their own materials.

    Drones: Intro to Amazing Sky Robots

    April 5th & 7th, 2024  |  7:00 - 9:00 PM

    A wide variety of drones will be flown and tested by students. Drones will likely include: DJI Brand Drones, Skydio Drone, FPV racing drones, micro FPV racing drones, scratch-built winged drones, and a wide variety of hobby miniature drones.

    Laws and regulations concerning registration and use of drones will be analyzed. A basic overview of what is required to obtain a commercial endorsement as a drone pilot will be covered. The camera applications of the drones will be covered thoroughly and will involve everything from GoPro’s to live feed cameras designed for use with goggles to put students in the pilot seat. Examples of real world real estate marketing will be explored. Agricultural mapping, competitive racing, and cinematography trade applications will be presented.

    A wide variety of current and future applications of the technology will be displayed hands on. 3D terrain scanning will be shown. The application of 3D printed drone parts will be briefly covered. The ability for drones to track and follow a subject in a variety of ways will be studied. Camera transmission capabilities over distance and through materials will be tested. Costs and availability of drones for people interested in getting their own will be discussed.We can help you set up drones you have now as well.

    Instrument Making - 3-D Printing and Laser Cutting

    Walk in empty handed and leave with a custom built didgeridoo, ukulele, violin, cello, or guitar. Whether you are a 3D design expert or totally new to the concept you will be able to make a high quality sounding instrument in a couple of classes. Learn how to use a variety of computer aided design programs to make laser cuts and/or 3D printers to make parts out of a variety of materials from woods to indestructible plastics that can glow in the dark.
