Mission

Honoring the legacy of Elouise Cobell, the Institute aims to accomplish its vision by:

  1. Facilitating research that engages with Indigenous Peoples, values, and ways of knowing.
  2. Fostering discussion for the advancement of Indigenous rights and sovereignty.
  3. Supporting the research and learning needs of Indigenous studies.
  4. Forming interdisciplinary leaders for the benefit of present and future Indigenous communities.

This mission is founded on four strategic pillars that complement each other and support programs and projects in alignment with the Institute’s priorities:

Research and Scholarship

Enables an interdisciplinary research portfolio with focus on integrated sciences and Indigenous studies.

Education and Outreach

Facilitates learning opportunities in STEM and the social sciences.

Institutional Engagement

Partners with intramural programs and external organizations in the public and private sectors.

Academic Support

Provides students and scholars with access to research resources and training services.
