Field of Study

I am a Ph.D. graduate student at the University of Montana working with Andrew Wilcox on river science and climate change issues. My research focus is on environmental flow (e-flow) designs for targeted watershed conservation goals under conditions of long-term water scarcity. I am particularly interested in use cases from the collaborative partnership between TNC and USACE for the Sustainable Rivers Program (SRP).

My research objectives are to establish e-flow design patterns in a GIS using multi-criteria optimization to meet targeted conservation objectives within the constraints of competing water allocation requirements and climate change. My approach is to leverage appropriate SRP datasets to develop a correlated raster data model for e-flow suitability analysis and spatial analytics quantifying the effects of e-flows on watershed conservation efforts. Long term goal is to create a series of e-flow templates in a GIS that can be adapted to different river basins around the world.
