Request a Tableau Desktop License

The University of Montana has purchased a data mining and visualization tool called Tableau. A Desktop license to Tableau will allow the user to link to any data source, clean data, develop analysis and data visualizations, and publish the final product to a website, if desired. Individual licenses of Desktop must be obtained and can be requested by completing this form below.

Questions about the software, purchase or form can be directed to Pope at the email pope.ashworth@umontana.edu or calling 406-243-5661.

Licenses currently cost $630 per year and are pro-rated the first year. The license runs from July 1 - June 30. The contract with Tableau is managed through Central IT. This form identifies the additional licenses that Central IT needs to purchase as well as the department that needs to be charged for the licenses.

Once the license has been obtained from Tableau, a representative from the Data Office will contact the requestor on this form to identify the individual(s) who should receive the license and send them the needed information to activate the software. The license will expire at the end of each fiscal year. Before the contract is renewed, units will be contacted to verify the number of licenses needed for the next fiscal year.

Note: The university does have separate contracts for academic and administrative uses. This form should only be used for staff and administrators. Any use of the software for educational purposes need to be obtained by contacting https://www.tableau.com/academic/students
