KPCN: The Peer Connection Network is an award-winning, student-based video production collaborative focused on increasing student success at the University of Montana. Past videos have included the 2020 Convocation video that was shown on the Oval, campus safety videos, and departmental promotional videos. High-profile projects offer UM students the opportunity to expand professional portfolios and to apply a number of concepts and techniques from classes into a business setting.

Editor/Videographer/Producer

Description

The Editor/Videographer/Producer is responsible for video pre-production, production, and post-production. The Editor/Videographer/Producer is responsible for scheduling meetings with various departments, organizing team members for shoots, reserving locations for interviews, editing, meeting deadlines, and working as a team member on multiple projects at the same time.

Hourly Rate        

$9.00-$14.00/ hr., 10-15 hours per week. Summer employment is contingent on funding.

Requirements         

  • Declared upper-division student with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Transcripts will be printed to confirm eligibility
  • Student must be enrolled in at least 6 academic credits each semester of employment

Skill Sets                  

  • Extensive editing experience in Premiere Pro Creative Cloud.
  • Proficient in the use of video and audio recording equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of lighting kits.
  • Working knowledge of AfterEffects and Audition Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to make small changes in AfterEffects for title screens and lower thirds.
  • Motivated and organized self-starter.
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with peers, faculty, staff, and administrators unfamiliar with filmmaking.

 

Motion Graphics Designer and Animator

Description

The motion graphics designer and animator is responsible for the conceptualization, design and presentation of graphic elements for each KCPN video. This position will produce opening and closing animations, and lower-third text animations and will create animations for other campus departments at the discretion of the work supervisor. This position is expected to help with film shoots, run audio, and gather stock footage when needed. This position also assists the Lead Producer with production tasks including setup, lighting, sound, and breakdown.

Hourly Rate        

$9.00-$14.00/ hr., 10-15 hours per week. Summer employment is contingent on funding.

Requirements         

  • Declared upper-division media arts major with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Completion of at least one semester of major-specific classes at the 200-level
  • Transcripts will be printed to confirm eligibility
  • Student must be enrolled in at least 6 academic credits each semester of employment

Skill Sets                  

  • Extensive experience working in AfterEffects and Photoshop Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to import and place finished graphics into Premier Pro Creative Cloud.
  • Proficient in the use of video and audio recording equipment.
  • Proficient in the use of lighting kits.
  • Motivated and organized self-starter.
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with peers, faculty, staff, and administrators unfamiliar with filmmaking and graphic design.

Audio Engineer

Description

The Audio Technician will be responsible for capturing, editing, and mixing audio for various projects, including short films. The AT will also compose custom soundtracks for KPCN productions.

Hourly Rate        

$9.00-$14.00/ hr., 10-15 hours per week. Summer employment is contingent on funding.

Requirements         

  • Set up and operate audio equipment, including microphones, mixers, and recording devices
  • Record, edit, compose and mix audio for various projects
  • Collaborate with other members of the production team to ensure audio quality and consistency
  • Troubleshoot and solve audio-related issues
  • Attend meetings, rehearsals, and production shoots as required
  • Maintain and organize equipment inventory
  • Continuously improve audio technical skills and knowledge

Skill Sets                  

  • Understanding of audio production techniques and equipment
  • Experience with audio recording, editing, composing, and mixing software
  • Experience in live audio is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
