Become a Faculty Mentor

Large classroom of students sitting in a groups listening to the professors lecture.

“The LA program has enabled me to more freely and comfortably utilize more prolonged periods of breakout sessions and lecture-tutorials. The LA’s also provide great insight in what they are seeing and hearing from the class, and our discussions help me figure out what has been working or not working in our class sessions.” -faculty mentor

“LAs build and strengthen community in the classroom, provide unique perspectives, and support both faculty and students… What a joy it has been to read in my students' final reflections that the LA was as crucial to their grasp of the material as the professor herself.” -faculty mentor

Working With a Learning Assistant

Learning Assistants help create a more collaborative and active learning environment in your classroom. Since they only recently completed the course, they are able to identify and help correct students' misconceptions.

They provide regular feedback to you related to both your teaching strategies and what they struggled with when they took the course.

Learning Assistants attend a weekly pedagogy seminar where they learn research-based instructional strategies that they can help you implement directly into your courses such as peer-learning, formative assessment, ConcepTest questions, metacognition, and midterm evaluation surveys.
