Conducting Workshop

Designed to enhance conducting, rehearsing and musicianship, the UM Conducting Workshop is a teaching workshop for instrumental conductors and music educators of all levels.  Daily activities include conducting a live ensemble of workshop participants, auditors, and members of the UM Symphonic Winds.  Discussions include aesthetic movement, score study, rehearsal techniques, and repertoire selection.

For beginning through advanced conductors of any ensemble type.  Registration for Conducting Participants will be limited to 25.  There is no limit for Workshop Auditors.  Applications will be accepted until filled.

Registration and Information

Levels of Participation

Conducting Participant NO GRADUATE CREDIT - $400

  • Conduct Lab Ensemble daily
  • Play in Lab Ensemble daily
  • Attend discussions and lectures

Conducting Participant WITH GRADUATE CREDIT - $200

  • Conduct Lab Ensemble daily
  • Play in Lab Ensemble daily
  • Attend discussions and lectures
  • In addition to completing the workshop registration, register for MUSI 511 in person or via Cyberbear.  www.umt.edu/cyberbear.

 Workshop Auditor - $250

  • Play in Lab Ensemble daily 
  • Attend discussion and lectures.

Renewal Units/Clock Hours

  • Approved by Montana Office of Public Instruction for 30 renewal units if not taking it for credit.
  • Approved by Washington OSPI for 30 clock hours if not taking it for credit.
  • 30 hours of professional development for other states added on request

  • TO BE ANNOUNCED - The Repertoire will consist of various grade levels of high quality liturature for full wind band.
