Personal Summary

Hey, y'all! My name is Emily, and I am a doctoral student in the School Psychology PhD program here at the University of Montana. I was born and raised in sunny South Carolina, where I graduated from Clemson University (go Tigers!) with my B.S. in Psychology. My undergraduate research focused on supporting children on the autism spectrum, including understanding how parents manage meltdown behavior. I worked as a behavior technician through college with students on the spectrum ages 3 to 18.

Currently, I am a member of the Culturally Responsive Evidence-Based Practices in School Psychology Lab (CRESP Lab) under my advisor, Dr. Anisa Goforth. Combining my interests in culturally responsive practice and working with youth on the autism spectrum, my research focuses on racial disproportionality in autism identification. I am currently exploring factors that contribute to the apparent under-identification of autism among Native American students in special education.
