Personal Summary

Brooklyn Draper is a researcher, educator, choreographer, and performer currently residing in Missoula, MT. She received her MFA from the University of Utah in 2019. She received a Post-Graduate degree from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance in London, UK. Brooklyn has had the honor to perform in the U.S., China, and the UK and to work with choreographers including Hagit Yakira, Gary Lambert, Eric Handman, Pamela Geber Handman, and Anouk van Dijk.

Brooklyn’s creative scholarship has been shown nationally and internationally through Mudson (UT), WCDC (UT), Artist Interrupted (UT), Beijing Dance Academy (China), Bonnie Bird Theater (U.K.), Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center (UT), Flatlands Dance Theater (TX), Utah Metropolitan Ballet, Utah Valley University (UT), Kinetic Convergence Dance Collective (MT), and the University of Montana (MT). Two of her most recent works, “Void” and “The Wallflowers,” were presented at the American College Dance Association Northwest Conferences at the University of Utah (2019) and Gonzaga University (2020). In 2021, her creative screendance, “Dreamdays,” was selected for the American College Dance Association National Screendance Gala Performance.

Brooklyn is a Certified Laban Movement Analyst (CLMA) through the Integrated Movement Studies program under the mentorship of Peggy Hackney and Janice Meaden. In 2019, she presented her research “Laban Bartenieff Movement Analysis to Support a Creative Choreographic Process” at the National Dance Education Organization Conference in Miami, FL alongside Caitlin Shill and Kate Monson.

In 2019, Brooklyn conducted an IRB approved study to determine the percentage of modern dance majors who have detectable leg length discrepancies and correlations of self-reported orthopedic complications. Brooklyn’s current research, alongside Tara McFarland, is an IRB approved study, “Creating Performance Enhancement Curriculum via Dance Screening Data for Pre-Professional Dancers,” investigates how a research-based dance conditioning course impacts results of dance screenings in University of Montana Dance Majors.
