Rider Code of Conduct

At UDASH, we expect all riders to be respectful of each other, their driver, and the UDASH system. Passengers are required to follow the Student Code of Conduct, and are asked to follow common sense guidelines:

  • Respect your driver, other passengers and UDASH vehicles and property.
  • Don’t interfere with the operation of the bus or cause safety problems.
  • Don’t smoke, drink alcohol or litter.
  • Don’t harass your driver or other passengers.
  • Follow the UM Student Code of Conduct at all times.

Anyone in violation of these guidelines may be asked to leave the UDASH vehicle and may risk suspension of riding privileges.

Additionally, we encourage all passengers to show courtesy by:

  • Making ADA seating near the front available to passengers in wheel chairs, elderly riders and parents with strollers and/or small children.
  • Removing your backpack or belongings from seats when the bus is crowded so others can use vacant seats.

Certain items are prohibited on the bus for safety reasons. A list of
prohibited items and activities is below.
• No smoking including e-cigs or vaporizers; no tobacco of any kind.
• No open alcoholic beverages.
• No gasoline and other flammable liquids.
• No car batteries.
• No fireworks.
• No ski or costume masks.
• No weapons of any kind, including but not limited to firearms and

the bus. Passengers may hand carry these items on board.

aisles.

Core Values and Goals

  1. Safety. We will provide safe mobility options for students and promote the safety of the traveling public.
  2. Sustainability. Our transportation programs will help reduce the environmental footprint of the University and its commuters.
  3. Inclusion. We welcome all users, regardless of background. Everyone has the right to feel included and respected, and to participate with dignity.
  4. Education. We educate and develop the next generation of transit professionals. Whenever possible, we will offer educational opportunities to students, faculty, staff, and visitors of the University.
  5. Responsibility. Our programs and initiatives will promote the financial health of the organization, the work/life balance of our employees, and the future ability of the organization to grow and realize its objectives.
  6. Accessibility. We will prioritize accessibility for all users regardless of ability.
  7. Wellness. We will promote healthy active commuting. Transportation programs will prioritize health and wellness.
  8. Innovation. We will innovate in a world with rapidly changing mobility options. We will remain a leader in best practices in transportation in the state of Montana and throughout higher education.

  1. Promote student recruitment, retention, and success through campus access. A student’s success starts and ends with the commute to campus. We recognize and embrace the role convenient and affordable campus access plays in student retention and success. We'll strive to demystify transportation choices; we'll provide information and resources to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  2. Engage the community; cultivate and refine relationships with our partners. We will engage and educate the campus community about our programs and core values. As an employer that is part of a broader educational institution, we will cultivate leaders in our staff, student employees, board members, and program participants. We will engage with existing partners while seeking additional partnerships to achieve mutual objectives.
  3. Reduce the number of campus affiliates who drive alone to campus. Transportation choices should add options, convenience, and flexibility to campus commuting options. ASUM should construct or support the construction of critical infrastructure that improves commuting options for campus affiliates. Reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles on campus will help the University and City of Missoula meet sustainability goals, increase accessibility, and potentially allow for the expansion of educational facilities.
  4. Continually assess and improve. Continuous improvement is key to the success of our organization. We'll collect and analyze data, patron feedback, and other metrics to make the best possible evidence-based decisions. We will research and compare ourselves to peer institutions, seek best practices, and remain flexible to new operational models.
  5. Lead the transition to new mobility paradigms. We must remain a leader on new mobility options. With the advent of ride-hailing services, electric bus technologies, shared micro-mobility systems, and the impending future of autonomous vehicles, students expect modern, shared mobility choices. We will be an early adopter of new methods, modes, and technologies whenever appropriate.
