Drippings of the Soul and Seasons

An Exhibition of Work by Jace Whitaker

January 7-28, 2022

Statement:

In a world full of rhetoric, sometimes moments are best expressed without words. Words, however, precise as their intentions seem to be, encroach on the human capacity for feeling. They compartmentalize the need to be unrestrained. Moments themselves are eternal. They are independent, they predate the cognitive need to be structured. The capacity of life transcends politics and the mundane experiences of a workaday world. Art without form is absolute freedom. Feeling, at its core, is post-idea. Drippings of the Soul and Seasons is a signature to the freedom of travels and moments in a life well lived. Think vividly.

Short Bio:

Having grown up in Idaho, with the Tetons and Rocky Mountains stretching across my backyard, there has always been an air of openness and independence in my life. I learned, at an early age, to be at home beneath those mighty mountains and the stoicism of lodgepole pines that scatter them. Nature informs a good portion of what I do. It entails my recognition of the time that true change takes, my stewardship to both the tradition of the land and the people that inhabit it, and the admiration for the beauty of difference.

At the heart of it, I'm a storyteller and I love the work I do. So, after 14 years of traveling the world, from the Bedouin deserts of the Arabian Peninsula to the coastal breakers of colonial New England, it’s no shock that I find myself drawn back to the Mountain West to share those stories in the form of art. My work is post-idea. It employs no rational thought or traditional techniques. Ultimately, where the paints falls is where my heart lands. I work with colors and colors are, to me, emotion. Therefore, I work within emotion.
