You may be viewing this webpage because you are enrolled as the instructor of record in at least one Moodle course for the current semester.

HOW TO REQUEST A COURSE TO REMAIN ACTIVE

  1. Using your NetID, login to UMOnline Course Maintenance.
  2. Click on the Request a Course to Remain Active link within.
  3. Select the course(s), if any, that you want to remain active.
  4. Check the ‘Visible to students’ option if student access to the course is required, otherwise, the course will be hidden from students. Please Note: Course visibility can also be managed by changing the “Visibility” setting in the Moodle Course Settings to “Show” or “Hide” and then select “Save and display.”
  5. Submit.
  6. Logout.

If you have courses in your Moodle course list that are not part of this current semester cleanup and you would like to have them taken offline, please use UM Solutions Center and submit a Moodle Help Request form. Once you Request Moodle Help, select a Request Type of Remove Course/Take Offline and provide your course information, including CRNs.

Backup Your Course(s)

How to Backup a Course Instructions

Please take advantage of the 'backup tool' available in Moodle to back up your courses. Once backed up and saved to your desktop, you can import content into any future Moodle course. Make sure the backup file is removed from within your course after downloading/saving the backup file to your desktop. If you misplace your backup, fill out the Moodle Help request form or call (406) 243-4357.

Back-Up Your Gradebook

How to Export Grades from Moodle

Moodle backup files do not include user information, like grades. You should export a copy of your gradebook for your records.

Copy Content to Next Semester’s Course

How to Import Course Content Instructions

In order to copy content from one course to another, you will need to have both the course you are importing from and the course shell you are copying to available. You should see all of your next semester courses in your Moodle course list now, although they may be listed under “Hidden Courses” on your dashboard. UM Online has a short video tutorial on how to Import Content from One Moodle Course to Another.

The UM IT Help Desk is available to help with copying content. Please allow 24-48 hours (Monday-Friday) to accommodate copy requests. It is recommended you make these requests at least two to three weeks in advance of the start of the semester to avoid delays during times of high volume requests. Please submit the Moodle Help Request form through the UM Solutions Center to help expedite this process. After clicking on Request Moodle Help, choose Import Course Content under Request Type. You will need the CRN, Course Number and Section, and Course Prefix (ACTG, EDLD) for both export and import courses.

For additional resources, tip sheets, and tutorials please visit UM Online's Moodle Resources page. There is also a self-enrollable Moodle Basics for Faculty tutorial that includes very comprehensive instructions for course maintenance and using Moodle tools.
