Edgar Smith, Adjunct Assistant Professor
I hold a MFA in sculpture from Ohio University and an MA in art history from the University of Montana.
My current work is intentionally broad-based in an attempt to free myself of media and process constraints. I am interested in many of the same themes that have dominated much of my painting; topics about western culture and landscape. My most recent project involves a direct response to areas where individuals demonstrate a disregard for the landscape. Many of these sites are so-called recreation areas. These are places where "fun" happens, but at a cost. The work asks the viewer to consider the seductive aspect of these destructive activities, as well the apparent moral high ground of environmental responsibility.
